Retirement of Dr. Van Vyve
01/01/2012 09:20

After a career spanning over 30 years including 20 years at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Hospital in Aalst, Dr. Van Vyve has retired.

During his career he saw  neurosurgery change dramatically. He witnessed how the introduction of CT and MR refined diagnosis of intracranial pathologies and completely change the ways of neurosurgical thinking.

During the period he was head of the department, many new techniques were developed. Dr. Martens introduced stereotactic radiosurgery, the use of neuronavigation for the safe operation of brain tumors and minimally invasive spinal surgery. Dr. G. Lesage introduced  awake surgery for the safe resection of brain tumors in functional sensitive brain areas.

Dr. Van Vyve leaves a well-structured neurosurgical unit with Dr. Martens as the new head of the department, Dr. Lesage and Dr. Kools as residents.

Dr. Vyve is willing to see his faithful patients in his outpatient clinic on Wednesday. He will no longer perform surgery.
